Focus Areas

CCLT has adopted the hub and spoke model for its work, wherein socially impactful research is being undertaken through academic collaborations to produce synergistic outcomes. The Centre is collaborating with industry and knowledge partners to create avenues for socially impactful work. Our research aims to create strategic, high-impact clusters in the following focus areas:

Rather than approaching these three domains in isolation, we are committed to considering them as productively entwined with each other. The Centre is working with stakeholders across the spectrum of governance, civil society, and grassroots organisations to achieve the following outcomes:

1. Documentation and preservation of traditional skills and heritage of janjatiya communities of Chhattisgarh in particular and India in general.
2. Documentation and preservation of janjatiya languages, especially endangered janjatiya languages, of Chhattisgarh in particular and India in general.
3. Documentation and preservation of medicinal knowledge systems of indigenous and janjatiya communities of Chhattisgarh in particular and India in general.
4. Capacity building of rural households, with special focus on women-led households, towards self-sufficient and sustainable livelihoods.

1. Knowledge repository in the form of a library and XR museum at IIT Bhilai foregrounding Chhattisgarh’s history, heritage, culture, and languages.
2. Patenting and sustainable commercialisation of indigenous and janjatiya medical and medicinal systems.
3. Revitalisation of handicraft and handloom sectors for enhanced livelihood security of artisanal and rural households.
4. Affordable and accessible technological interventions to enhance efficiency of traditional manufacturing.
