Data Science and AI are rapidly being adopted everywhere in developing next generation analytics solutions for extracting knowledge and insights from raw and unstructured data from heterogeneous sources.National Workshop on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence 2019 (WDSAI 2019) was hosted at IIT Bhilai on July 2-4, 2019. It was organized by the EECS department at IIT Bhilai and E&ICT Academy of IIT Guwahati.
Comprised of keynotes, tech talks, hands-on sessions, this workshop brought to the table a diverse and complex mix of perspectives, views and opinions from different sectors. Incourse of this workshop, IIT Bhilai played host to more than 75 participants from various parts of the country including several domain experts and industry practitioners. Interactive poster sessions were held to provide mentoring of early career faculty and their students working in data sciences and AI through poster presentations. This provided budding data scientists and students an opportunity to engage with leading researchers in the country and receive valuable feedback for conducting high quality research leading to competitive publications.
The event was inaugurated by Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Bhilai followed by an enlightening keynote talk by Dr. Subrata Rakshit, Associate Director of CAIR, DRDO. This was followed by talks by Dr. Ashish Anand, Faculty at CSe Deptt, IIT Guwahati and Dr. Veena Bansal of IIT Bhilai. The first day session ended on a high note with engaging talk from Ramanujan Komanduri, Head of Sales, NetApp Inc.
The second day of the workshop opened with a keynote talk on Granular Modelling by Prof. Shankar Pal, Distinguished Scientist and former director of ISI Kolkata. It was followed by a second keynote talk on Aadhar and eSign by Prof. Rajat Moona, Director of IIT Bhilai. The afternoon sessions continued with tech talk by Devashish Bhattacharya from EdClap and Poster sessions demonstrating the work in progress projects by IIT Bhilai and external students.
The event concluded on July 4th with talks from Sidhartha Nandi, Director, ATG group in NetApp Inc., Dinesh Garg from IBM IRL, and Rajesh N Rao from Robert Bosch Gmbh. The session featured hands-on oriented tutorials by seasoned data science researchers and practitioners, namely Bosch and IBM.
The three day workshop at IIT Bhilai focused on the application of artificial intelligence and data science to achieve data-driven solutions. The accelerated training during the workshop empowered the participants to apply artificial intelligence, statistical and computational modelling to develop data-driven products and services.
